Partnership Opportunities

The School of Engineering has been on a robust growth trajectory of 8% annually in the past decade, between 2009 and 2018. To help offset the shortfalls in traditional funding support, we are increasingly relying on external support such as yours to help maintain the mission and quality of SFSU Engineering.

There are many ways to support the School of Engineering that meet your needs and we welcome all forms of support. Whether it is an undesignated gift or a designated gift to support specific educational goals, your gift will help us on a path of balanced growth and academic excellence. Please contact the Director of the School of Engineering, Dr. Kwok Siong Teh (, 415-338-1228) to learn more about how you could best support our mission.

Areas of Greatest Needs

Your most impactful gifts will fund some of our greatest challenges that lie in the frontline operations: teaching and research laboratories, training equipment and apparatus, computational technologies, project sponsorships, scholarships to support students, and endowed professorship/lecturership for the hiring and retention of outstanding faculty.

Here are some areas of giving that could create the most direct impact on our students’ education:

  • Teaching and Research Laboratories Fund: To produce industry-ready engineers means that we must provide state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities that enable solid fundamental lab training and spark research innovation. Such laboratories are pivotal to enabling multidisciplinary collaboration with other academic units and the industry.

  • In-kind Gifts of Equipment and Technology: To provide industry-relevant academic training and innovative research skills, our laboratories must be equipped with specialized, cutting-edge equipment, apparatus, and industry software. This enables students to be trained in modern technologies which will in turn allow them to transition seamlessly into the professional engineering world upon graduation.

  • Project Sponsorship and Mentorship: To graduate students with real-world engineering skills, project-based learning is the cornerstone of an Engineering education from SFSU. Most junior- and senior-level Engineering classes incorporate design projects as an important learning component. You may choose to sponsor a project by providing in-kind materials and fabrication support, monetary donation of as little as $500 per year, and/or technical guidance and mentorship.

  • Endowed Scholarships: To attract and retain top-notch students, to improve educational performance and equity, and to recognize academic excellence among our students, it is important to establish endowed scholarships to support Engineering students. Importantly, such endowments could enable us to augment our educational mission by encouraging and incentivizing students to excel in growth areas within specific discipline that align with industry needs.

  • Endowed Professorships and Lecturerships: To ensure our students learn from the best and most effective teachers and scholars, we must hire outstanding full-time faculty and part-time faculty. Given the high cost of living and financial stress of being a teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area, endowed professorships (for full-time faculty) for research/teaching excellence, and endowed lecturerships (for part-time faculty) for teaching excellence in foundational courses allow us to attract and retain these extraordinary teacher-scholars.

Thank you in advance for your generous support. We look forward to hearing from you about how you may want to engage with us in supporting the next generation of Engineering leaders!
