Each year our chapter offers scholarships for college students (incoming freshman through college juniors) studying engineering, land surveying, and related fields. The attached document includes the list of qualifications as well as the application and submittal instructions.

We recognize the vital role civil engineers play in shaping our world. To support and encourage talented individuals pursuing civil engineering or land surveying degrees, we are pleased to introduce the County Engineers Association of California (CEAC) Memorial Scholarship. This award aims to recognize outstanding academic achievement, community involvement, and a passion for infrastructure development.

Scholarship Details:

  • Amount: (3) $2000 per academic year
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Each student must be enrolled in upper division course work leading to a civil engineering or land surveying Degree
    • High grade point average
    • Have participated in related outside activities such as a Student Chapter ASCE, Student Member CLSA or American Public Works Association

Scholarship Eligibility and Guidelines

• Applicants must be classified as juniors or seniors in bachelors degree programs, or will be candidates for degrees in masters or doctorate degree programs, in the academic years for which the scholarship awards are granted.

• Applicants must be pursuing their degree in one (or more) of the following areas: business, chemistry, civil engineering, construction management, marketing or sales. Preference will be given to students who have a focus on civil infrastructure, particularly in the study of asphalt materials and its use.

• Applicants can be from any U.S. state. Preference may be given to residents of Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia or West Virginia.

• Applicants must exhibit a financial need. Applicants should include a financial need assessment for the upcoming school year.

• Recipients must be a full-time student each semester, unless an exception is requested in writing and approved. Withdrawal from school, except for serious illness or injury, shall result in the recipient losing the scholarship.

• Recipients will be required to furnish a transcript and status report at the end of each semester before additional monies are awarded.

• Scholarship monies will be payable directly to the recipients chosen college or university. Monies may be applied to qualified education expenses including, but not limited to: tuition, books and course-related fees. Scholarship funds are not available for housing/utility expense (room & board), food/dining plans, or personal expenses such as vehicle loans, medical expenses, etc.

• The Kirk Scholars Program Review Panel will make the final determination on all cases concerning the interpretation of the eligibility, guidelines and rules of the scholarship fund.

Simpson Strong-Tie Scholarship

If you’re an incoming junior/senior in civil/structural engineering, architecture or construction management, apply for $3,000 toward your degree.

First-time scholarship recipients are eligible for an all-expenses-paid trip to the company’s California headquarters in July 2024, as part of the Strong-Tie Undergraduate Fellowship.

The EM MSIPP STARS program provides opportunities for undergraduate students from Minority Serving Institutions pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and supports EM research and operations in:

Why should I apply?

As a STARS scholar, you will receive…

·         Financial support for the pursuit of a related academic degree.

·         Paid summer internships under the guidance of an accomplished mentor at EM headquarter offices, field offices, and DOE national laboratories.

·         Opportunities to engage with the EM community (e.g., EM field sites, contractors, stakeholders) and other STARS Scholars.

·         Continued engagement with EM after graduation through employment opportunities or postgraduate appointments, in addition to academic and career guidance.

 

What will I do?

EM MSIPP STARS provides support for you to pursue an undergraduate degree and/or a master’s degree depending upon program continuation, and the Office of Environmental Management (EM) seeks to continue engagement with students upon completion of the program, preferably as EM employees. Internship activities will introduce you to the missions, functions, operations, and culture of EM and the hosting site. You can choose the area you are most interested in for the summer! As part of your application, you will identify your top 3 research areas.

 

You will gain relevant experience in your field of study or expand knowledge in areas of interest. Upon graduation, you will have a greater understanding of the EM mission and its science and technology needs and be highly prepared to apply and be selected for employment with EM.

 

What are the benefits?

  • Tuition Allowance: $36,000/academic year (Amount is based on expected average cost. The tuition allowance may be higher based on student’s actual tuition costs.)
  • Stipend: $32,000/academic year
  • Education Allowance: $5,000/scholarship year
  • Summer Internship: 10-week (onsite) internship
    • Stipend: $750/week
    • Housing Allowance: Up to $700/week based on assigned location
    • Local Transportation: $50/week
    • Inbound/Outbound: $1,000 to be paid as a lump-sum with the first stipend payment

 

Eligibility

  • Be a U.S. citizen at the time of application.
  • Be 18 years of age by June 1, 2024.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited Minority Serving Institution (MSI) during the 2023-2024 academic year. 
  • Have completed two years towards an undergraduate degree and graduating no earlier than the end of the Spring 2025 semester/trimester. Students who have completed more than two years towards their undergraduate degree may be considered if they have completed an internship with the Office of Environmental Management since May 2022.
  • Pursuing a STEM degree in a discipline that supports the Office of Environmental Management research and operations.

SWE Santa Clara Valley Scholarships Information Session

SWE (Society of Women Engineers) Santa Clara Valley is hosting a virtual Scholarships Information session, where our section's Scholarship Chairs will be giving tips on how to submit a good application. There will be 15-20 mins of prepared content and the rest of the time will be for Q&A.

 

SWE SCV promotes SWE's mission by awarding scholarships to local women pursuing an accredited engineering or computer science degree (ABET or CSAB) in the United States. Scholarships are open to high school seniors and college students in the Santa Clara Valley area (more details on qualifying locations here)

SWE Scholarships Support Women Pursuing Bachelor or Graduate Student Programs

SWE Scholarships support those who identify as a woman and pursue an ABET-accredited bachelor or graduate student program in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology, and fields related to engineering globally. In 2023, SWE disbursed over 330 new and renewed scholarships valued at more than $1,500,000! 

SWE now offers scholarships in India! These SWE scholarships support students that identify as women and are enrolled in either a SWE India Affiliate school or Washington Accord-accredited program, and are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, or fields related to engineering. 

For all SWE scholarships, applicants complete one application and are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

2024-2025 Academic Year Scholarship Applications:

  • ABET Upperclass (rising sophomore, junior, senior undergraduates and all graduate students): December 1, 2023 – January 31, 2024 at 5:00 PM CT – Apply Here!
