Summer 2024 Internships at Marine Physical Laboratory

The Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) at world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego is currently seeking inquisitive, motivated undergraduates with exceptional aptitude for quantitative science and technology to apply for the 2024 MPL Summer Internship Program. 

The MPL Summer Internship program is a paid, ten-week research program where students complete their own individual research project under the mentorship of some of the most notable scientists in the world. In addition to their research, students will attend weekly seminars, participate in hands-on activities, and more. Interns receive a $16.85/hour salary and a $6,000 taxable stipend to offset costs of housing, meals, transportation, etc. 

This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students majoring in oceanography, applied mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, geology and related majors!

 

ELIGIBILITY

·      Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in their first, second, or third year of undergraduate status. Senior year undergrads, former MPL interns, and high school applicants are not eligible.

·      Applicants must be at least 18 years of age as of the internship start date.

·      Applicants must be available to start in June 2024 and work 40 hours/week for entire duration of the internship (10 consecutive weeks).

We want to share an exciting research opportunity for your students. As part of a Department of Energy RENEW grant, we have internship opportunities at Sandia National Laboratories exploring quantum information science and technology. Example internship projects include exploring topological material-based device physics, developing software to interface hardware with existing trapped ion quantum controls, characterizing a broadband electro-optical modulator for trapped ion quantum computing, and developing simulations for trapped ion behavior. The internships take place in Albuquerque, NM and are only open to CSU students. Participants must be an enrolled undergraduate student at any CSU campus, able to relocate to Albuquerque ($1500 relocation assistance available) and be able to work 40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks between May and September 2024. Job Description and Duties

In the Division of Construction, under the general direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the incumbent serves as a Resident Engineer (RE) over a construction project and is responsible for the engineering integrity. Under general direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the incumbent serves as the Office Engineer (OE).  This position assists the Resident Engineer with difficult contract administration activities at a field office.  This includes preparing, maintaining complete and accurate documentation regarding construction contracts and projects.

After successful completion of a one year probation, the new state candidate will be required to enroll in the Caltrans Transportation Engineer Rotation Program, which includes rotating to other divisions for up to two years in the Oakland District Office. Throughout employment with the division, employees may be required to work at night and/or weekends; may be transferred to work at another construction field office; or may be re-assigned to work for another senior engineer on a different project.

Duties:
Under the close supervision of the Stormwater Management Unit Supervisor (Senior Water Resource Control Engineer), the incumbent performs engineering analysis of stormwater data, reviews monitoring reports, and performs field inspections to assess compliance with stormwater permits, and prepare reports using Geographic Information System and statistical software to communicate progress stormwater pollutant reduction programs are having on improving receiving water quality throughout the region. The incumbent will use data interpretation/visualization tools to analyze and evaluate water quality data and the potential effects of pollutants and pollution on water quality and beneficial uses to guide regulatory actions to achieve environmental outcomes or enforcement to deter non-compliance. Work collaboratively with other staff and regulatory agencies. Provide written and verbal presentations to the public and Board members. Consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the Water Boards’ Strategic Plan and the San Diego Water Board’s Practical Vision, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal and external customers, to follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal and external customer input when completing work assignments.

This is a paid summer internship for ZEISS, and we are excited to offer an opportunity to a select group of qualified STEM majors in their last and second to last year. We are recruiting for openings in the Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City metropolitan areas. The program runs from June 12th to August 4th. During the program interns will be trained in the basics of either electron microscopy or light microscopy repair and troubleshooting techniques then shadow Service Engineers in the field.

Program description

Maffei Structural Engineering is offering a 3-day externship program to introduce curious students to the field of structural engineering. Participants will go through a structured program of learning activities including presentations about the industry, real project work, Young Engineers’ meetings, and personal mentorship.
The externship will take place from a Tuesday through Thursday sometime between March and August, depending on participants’ availability. A tentative schedule of activities is shown below. Participants will be awarded a stipend to compensate them for their time.
Only limited spaces are available. We welcome applications from candidates who identify with groups that are under-represented in structural engineering.

Externship Program is a 2-day program that will occur on Thursday April 13th and Friday April 14th as a hybrid virtual and in-person program at our office in Downtown San Francisco.

Undergraduate students interested in a career in the built environment, particularly through an engineering, economic, and urban planning lens, would find this program particularly beneficial. 

 

During the externship at Arup, current college students will have the opportunity to learn about careers in the built environment from some of the most highly respected designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants, and technical specialists in the world. The externship will provide students with an opportunity to hear from global Arup leaders, learn about our work, the tools and strategies we use, and expose students to various careers in the built environment. Finally, we will host workshops to enhance career readiness and professional growth to prepare undergraduates for their next role. 

 

The Arup Externship Program hopes to connect with and inspire traditionally underrepresented groups. The Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) is currently looking for San Francisco base students for our program which is based out of San Francisco City Hall with OCII. The students will be working on major projects with a firm throughout the city. The firms will be working for the City & County of San Francisco. The position is entry level. We need all interns to be computer savvy with design software. Some firms will have interns build models and freehand drawing for many projects. All interns are required to be able to work in-person with a team and join weekly workshops.
