  • B.S. Physics, Istanbul University, 1976
  • M.S. Physics, Bosphorus University, 1978
  • Ph.D. Physics, Istanbul University, 1983

Nilgun Ozer received PhD in applied physics from Istanbul University Turkey in 1983. In 1976, she joined Bogazici University where she became a faculty. Dr. Ozer joined Istanbul Technical University and became a professor in 1983. She held a Fulbright Scholar position at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she worked on sol-gel deposition of optical coatings in 1989. She then set up a Thin Film Research Laboratory at the Istanbul Technical University. In 1993, she joined the Applied Science and Technology Group at the University of California in Berkeley. Specializing in sol-gel deposition techniques, she conducted a research on the process development and optical application. She is currently MESA engineering program director at San Francisco State University.

Dr. Ozer's research interests include wet chemical deposition of optical thin films and the application of electrochromic films in switchable devices and infrared sensors. She is an author of more than 45 journal papers and conference proceedings. She serves on the editorial board for the Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. In 2001, she served as a guest editor on a special issue on "Sol-gel Coatings" for Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells. Dr. Ozer is the member of The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Materials Research Society (MRS) and The National Association of Minority Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA).
