ShyShenq Liou graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 1989 with a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Center for Electromechanics, University of Texas at Austin from 1989 to 1991 as Research Engineer on Power Electronics/Rotating Machines. He joined the School of Engineering, San Francisco State University in 1991 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994 teaching courses in Power Electronics.

Dr. Liou's research interests are rotating machines and power electronics, especially their applications in motion control area. Since his stay at SFSU, Dr. Liou has received many grants for projects. Dr. Liou has received total of 17 funded projects. Out of these 17 funded projects, 9 are externally funded and 5 are contract extensions. Three projects are funded by the Office of Research and Professional Development, San Francisco State University. Total amount of funded project is $1,280,680.

He has also published a number of papers in journals, conferences and professional reports. Dr. Liou also has substantial professional experience and maintains himself active in professional societies.
