National Science Foundation S-STEM Scholarships
School of Engineering’s National Science Foundation’s S-STEM program will provide over 30 scholarship awards to academically talented, financially needy students to complete an undergraduate degree in engineering. S-STEM awards will be offered for up to two years of full-time academic study at SFSU.
The scholarship program will provide a unique opportunity for qualified engineering students to focus full-time on their studies and fully benefit from a support system proposed by the funded NSF S-STEM proposal. This grant aims to increase student success by providing faculty mentoring, advising, tutoring, Academic Excellence Workshops and peer mentoring as well as engineering professional student chapters at SFSU and professional speaker panels. Students are engaged in leadership development, engineering seminars, and networking with professional engineers and alumni.

School of Engineering NSF S-STEM Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be citizens of the United States, nationals of the United States, aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence;
- Must demonstrate financial need for the 2009-2010 aid year as defined by the US Department of Education rules for need-based Federal financial aid. The 2009-2010 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filed, see: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) must be submitted as part of the packet. SFSU’s Federal school code is 001154; and please see SFSU financial aid website http://www.sfsu.edu/~finaid/ for more information
- Must enroll full-time (at least 12 units) at SFSU each semester of the award;
- Be within two years (by the start of the scholarship) of completing a bachelor degree in a engineering field (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering);
- Must have a Grade Point Average of at least 2.75.
The completed application must be submitted no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2009 to Engineering Office, SCI 163, Attn: S-STEM Program. Applications postmarked after October 27, 2009 will not be accepted. Only completed application packets will be reviewed.

A completed application packet contains the following documents:
- Application Form (Page 2) – Completed, signed and dated.
- College Transcripts – Current SFSU students need to include copies of ALL college coursework at SFSU and any other colleges they have attended. Unofficial transcripts accepted.
- Copy of 2009-2010 FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) – showing Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Please include SFSU’s school code (001154) on your FAFSA application. For more information on FAFSA, please visit the SFSU Financial Aid office website http://www.sfsu.edu/~finaid/.
- Student Educational Plan (SEP) – showing all completed, in-progress, and future college courses needed to complete a degree in one of the four engineering majors.
- Personal Statement – Must be typed, double-spaced, and a maximum of 2 pages in length. Please include information about yourself and family, your academic and career goals and academic plans.
- Commitment Statement – A statement of commitment about how this scholarship would specifically help you to complete your BS degree in a timely manner.
- Letter of Recommendation – One letter of recommendation from a math or science or engineering professor. Please use the Recommendation Form provided on page 3 of the application packet. The letter must be signed and sealed by the recommender.
