ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CURRICULUM PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS (Fall 2004)
Starting with the Fall 2004 semester, there will be changes to both the lower division and upper division of the Electrical Engineering curriculum. Certain lower division course requirements have been removed. Some upper division requirements have been added and the number of required upper division elective courses has been commensurately reduced. The overall intent of these changes is to train students in a broad range of important areas of Electrical Engineering.
- Students who enter the University in or after Fall 2004 must follow this new curriculum.
- Students who entered the University before Fall 2004 can choose either to follow the curriculum in place at the time they entered or to follow this new curriculum. You cannot mix and match requirements from the two curricula.
LOWER DIVISION CURRICULUM CHANGES
- The following courses are required and replace ENGR 101:
- ENGR 100 Introduction to Engineering (1)
- ENGR 106 Introduction to Engineering Laboratory (1)
- The following courses are no longer required:
- ENGR 102 Statics
- ENGR 200 Materials of Engineering
- ENGR 201 Dynamics
- These courses are replaced by a single 3-unit Mechanical Engineering Elective requirement, which can be satisfied by taking any one of the following courses:
- ENGR 201 Dynamics (3)
- ENGR 203 Materials of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (3)
- ENGR 204 Mechanics (3)
- ENGR 303 Thermodynamics (3)
Both ENGR 203 and ENGR 204 are newly offered courses, beginning in Fall of 2004. Students with interests in Control and Robotics are encouraged to enroll in ENGR 201 or ENGR 204. Students interested in Power Systems should consider ENGR 303.
- The following course is now required:
- ENGR 290 Modular Elective (1)
Students must take either the MATLAB or the PSPICE module to fulfill the ENGR 290 requirement. You may take both if you wish, but only one unit can be counted toward graduation.
UPPER DIVISION CURRICULUM CHANGES
- The following course is no longer required and cannot be counted to satisfy graduation requirements:
- ENGR 308 Computer methods
- The following courses are now required:
- ENGR 315 Systems Analysis Lab (1)
- ENGR 442 Operational Amplifier System Design (3)
- ENGR 447 Control Systems (3)
- ENGR 446 Control Systems Lab (1)
- ENGR 451 Digital Signal Processing (4)
ENGR 315 is a newly offered course, beginning in Fall of 2004, and should be taken in the same semester as ENGR 305.
- In order to take ENGR 696 Engineering Design Project I, you must have completed 21 upper division units, have passed the JEPET or have taken (or be concurrently enrolled in) English 414 (for domestic students) or English 410 or 411 (for international students).
- Students are required to choose 9 upper division elective courses in their senior year (instead of the current 13), of which 6 must be Engineering Science units and 3 Engineering Design units.
UPPER DIVISION ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING ELECTIVE COURSES
- At least 13 upper division required or elective units must be completed at SFSU.
- Upper division courses must have been taken within five years of graduation.
- Students are strongly encouraged (but not required) to choose an area of emphasis and complete engineering electives in that area. The areas of emphasis currently offered are Communications, Computers, Control Systems and Robotics, Electronics, and Power Systems.
